Modem Support - Port Already Open

Port Open errors normally occure when another device or program is already using the modem

A number of problems can cause this error.

First, check your modem and phone cord. Try the phone cord on another phone and make sure it works. If you are using an external modem make sure it is plugged in and that it is receiving power and turned on.Second,completely restart the computer ? Try  shutting down and unplugging the computer for 1 minute. Restart  the computer and try to connect to the Internet again.  If you have an external modem with a separate power cord, once the computer is shutdown, unplug the modem power for 1 minute, plug the modem back in, then turn on the modem and restart the compute before attempting to dial again.  Third,  It is possible that another program has accessed your modem and has not released it.   It is possible that another software program, such as fax software, is holding on to your modem. The modem can not dial another number until the software releases it. To verify whether your modem is being used by another program, press Control+ALT+Delete and close each program while attempting to connect after each.  Remember the program that is in use when your modem starts to work again.  Close       this program prior to using your modem for internet connection.
